“Finally! A sassy and heartwarming board book to teach our children the alphabet of humane values. Innosanto Nagara knows that activism begins in the cradle, but to be sustainable, it has to be wide-ranging, deep-rooted, and based ultimately on a sense of fun and community. A is for Activist covers all this ground with a playful rhyming style that makes you want to turn the pages and read the book over and over again. The illustrations are so colorful, beautifully executed, little works of art in and of themselves. What a great book for children of all ages. The Spanish adaptation by Martha Gonzalez captures the essence of the English original and makes it sing y cantar con todo el amor y cariño de nuestra cultura y lengua.”

A is for Activist, the “ABC Book for the 99%”, by longtime Global Exchange ally Innosanto Nagara, just keeps plugging along. Many of you will remember when we first shared it back in 2012 – it was a work in progress that Inno was about to self-publish (with Global Exchange design partners Design Action Collective). Since then it has been picked up by Seven Stories Press and is in it’s 8th printing.

But with “I is for Immigrant”, “J for Justicia”, and “Z for Zapatista”, many in the Global Exchange family have asked, when is it coming out in Spanish? It took a year, but now A de Activista is finally available. “innomarthagonzalezIt’s not a straight translation” Inno insisted when we asked him about it, “it’s an adaptation, and Martha is the author of the Spanish version”.

You might know Martha Gonzalez as the lead singer and songwriter from the Grammy Award winning LA band, Quetzal
